bongaon, north 24-parganas: around 300 trucks carrying goods to bangladesh got stranded at haridaspur near the indo-bangla border. according to sources, the crisis started at the end of december. district magistrate harikrishna dwibedi held a formal meeting with the bangladesh rifles and border security force officials on thursday to defuse the crisis. "there was a deadlock in the transaction as the bdr informed that it had got the blockade instruction from the higher authority," said dwibedi, adding that the governments of the two countries must address the problem to arrive at a solution. bangladesh rifles had complained to the customs officials of their country that the trucks were carrying greater loads than specified in the road challan. they also alleged that some trucks carried unauthorised persons as helpers. immediately, the customs officials of bangladesh surveyed the six border districts. soon, a strict vigil was started and the trucks were made to wait for long hours. naturally, 700 trucks got stranded forming a serpentine queue along jessore road owing to the heavy rush. according to a custom official, the problem had arisen due to a "misunderstanding" between the customs officials of the two sides. so, desperate truck owners have begun negotiations with the bangladesh officials to stop the situation from getting out of hand. district superintendent of police harisen verma said, "the problem had arisen owing to a misunderstanding between bdr-bsf. as a result, the three kilometre stretch remained highly clogged."
